I grew up in an Italian family. My mother is a native of Chieti, Abruzzo. She had my sister and me shaping gnocchi and ravioli by the time we could see over the kitchen counter.

My father’s parents were from Molise and Lazio. We spent our summers traveling all around Italy when I was growing up, and I return often for work and for inspiration.

Food is at the center of Italian family life and I have probably spent the majority of my hours on this earth in kitchens and around dinner tables, cooking, eating, talking, arguing, and socializing.

The food I make is the food I love to eat and feed others: simple, honest dishes that reflect my heritage.

I am a former newspaper reporter with a graduate degree in journalism from Columbia University. My recipes and articles on Italian home cooking have been widely published in national publications including Better Homes and Gardens, Cooking Light, Elle Décor, Fine Cooking, Food and Wine, the Chicago Tribune and The Washington Post
